Centre for Participation volunteer program manager Stephanie Thomson said they wanted to make more people smile.
“It could be as simple as offering to buy someone coffee or putting extra money in the parking meter so the next person does not have to pay,” she said.
Miss Thomson said ‘do something day’ was a chance to be part of a community that cared.
“Its about community, spirit and helping others with no expectations other than a smile,” she said.
‘Do something day’ aims to promote volunteering and charity work.
Miss Thomson said it was an Australian-wide campaign to inspire and introduce random acts of kindness into everyday life.
She encouraged people to take a photo of their deed and post it on social media using the hashtag #dosomethingday.
