Mr Evans said customers had reported phone calls or people coming into businesses using pressure tactics to change to the National Broadband Network.
He said customers had been told to move to the NBN otherwise their equipment would not work.
“In many cases that is incorrect,” he said.
Mr Evans said customers should seek clarification from trusted providers.
“Don’t let anyone on the phone or someone from out of town pressure you,” he said.
Mr Evans also advised the region to proactively manage their computer systems as customers have reported the Trojan virus in computers.
