Reigning premier Penola is the benchmark team in the 2017 season, Cougars coach Nick Murphy says.
“Their form has been a bit up and down this season but they always have a solid team,” he said.
“I expect the game to be hard fought and there to be a lot of stoppages.
“If we bring the effort and intensity we’ve shown from previous weeks, I think it will be a good battle.”
The last time the two teams met Penola came out strong 66-point victors.
“They outclassed us that game,” Murphy said.
“We took a lot out of it. We were just outmatched with intensity and we’re looking to rectify that result.”
Cougars ruckman Nathan Bowles has been performing strongly during the second half of the 2017 season and Murphy believes the battle in the ruck will be something to watch.
“They have a good ruck man in Seb Guilhaus, so I expect that to be good,” Murphy said.
Murphy said his players were up and about.
“We’re all good to go. We didn’t have any injuries last game and it has been a good week of training,” he said.
“The spirits are high because of past results.”
Border Districts has a bye.
