Yarriambiack Shire Council identified the Woomelang Shopping Precinct upgrade as a priority project to help improve the liveability and boost the town’s economy.
Regional Development Minister Jaala Pulford announced in parliament this week the upgrade was complete.
The $128,000 project included developing a vacant block next to the community-owned café and grocery store into a meeting place, creating a large sheltered space and car park, and landscaping.
Ms Pulford said the upgrade helped retain two full-time jobs in the region.
Community members donated $13,000 in kind for the project, with the state government committing $100,000 and Woomelang and District Development Association $15,000.
The government money was part of the Drought Response Package.
Ms Pulford said residents were already enjoying getting out and about in the upgraded areas.
“This investment will boost economic activity, support business and jobs opportunities, and activate a unique area of the Wimmera region,” she said.
“We know regional Victoria has the best of everything, but we can make it even better for locals and visitors.”
