The councillors met tonight to hold an informal vote to elect the mayor for the next term ahead of Thursday’s statutory meeting.
Candidates for mayor were Cr David Grimble and Cr Clarke.
Cr Mark Radford was nominated, however, declined the nomination having previously said he “will not be putting his name forward” if Cr Clarke decided to run for mayor again.
Cr Clarke served as mayor in 2008-09 and 2016-17.
The statutory meeting on Thursday starts at 7pm in the council chambers.
