Fire crews were called to a blaze in King Drive, Horsham, at 8.10pm on Monday.
Country Fire Authority district 17 acting operations manager Craig Brittain said when crews arrived, they found a prime mover car carrier alight.
“Fortunately, people passing by saw the fire and called it in,” he said.
“Horsham Fire Brigade volunteers did a fantastic job and the fire was under control within about 30 minutes.”
Mr Brittain said the prime mover was completely destroyed and a trailer was damaged.
“There was also a truck and trailer nearby that was impacted by the fire and heat and severely damaged as a result,” he said.
“A tilt tray tow truck was also damaged.
“The fire would have caused damage worth about $700,000 to $800,000 – maybe more.”
Mr Brittain said investigators were at the scene on Tuesday to determine the cause of the fire.
He said the machinery was all out in a yard, meaning fire fighters had reasonable access to the scene.
“If the machinery was parked in a shed, it would have been a more significant fire,” he said.
Mr Brittain said a firefighter was taken to hospital as a precaution for smoke inhalation.
He said she was okay.
