The man, 58, was yabbying at the lake when he fell in and drowned.
Goroke Leading Senior Constable Jim Richardson said two other fisherman found the man in the lake, pulled him into their boat and gave him CPR.
He said the two fishermen brought the unconscious man back to shore and called emergency services.
Goroke and Edenhope police attended the scene, along with paramedics.
“Police applied CPR but the man died at the scene,” Leading Senior Constable Richardson said.
“The fishermen and the police did their very best to keep the man alive.”
Leading Senior Constable Richardson said it was important people were safe in the water and take all safety precautions during the summer.
“Everyone needs to make sure they have all of the correct safety gear and that it’s all up to date,” he said.
