HARVEST in the Wimmera is back in full swing after heavy rain earlier this month.
However, hot weather this week could slow growers down again.
In GrainCorp’s latest harvest statement, it shows 296,500 tonnes of grain has been delivered in Victoria this month. The report urged growers to continue to monitor the weather.
Grains Research and Development Corporation southern regional panel member Fiona Marshall has urged growers to look after themselves during harvest.
“Safety is the most important thing heading into and throughout harvest,” she said.
Mrs Marshall said the need to support others was heightened this year following severe weather.
“When your neighbours are celebrating a bumper harvest but your crops have been wiped out by frost, it is a devastating position for a grower to be in,” she said.
“Communication is the key for all grain growers, especially at this time of the year.
“Talk to the bank manager, talk to other people.”
