HORSHAM Rural City Council believes drones could be a solution to the city’s corella problem.
The council is working with a drone operator to move corellas out of town as they continue to wreak havoc on Horsham’s sporting and recreational surfaces.
A trial where operators use drones to follow corella flight patterns, observe their behaviour and encourage them to move from locations in Horsham started on Monday.
Planning and economic director Angela Murphy said drones were one of the many solutions the council had explored.
She hoped the trial would prevent further damage.
“If this trial is successful, it will help us to safely solve an issue that has affected our municipality for many years,” she said.
Ms Murphy said the council was also liaising with key sporting groups and asking them to monitor the time of day corellas were gathering.
She encouraged landowners to ensure grain, feed and scraps were contained and not left in areas that would attract corellas.
