Horsham College to present showcase at 2018 Wimmera Machinery Field Days | Video

HORSHAM College students will show off their talents at the Wimmera Machinery Field Days next month.

The college will return to Longerenong this year to present its student showcase.

Teacher Tina Fitzgerald said the year 11 and 12 textile students would show off garments they have made.

“The year 12 students will model work they made at the end of last year, because they are now busy with their folios,” she said.

Ms Fitzgerald said the textiles students would focus on re-purposed and up-cycled garments.

“We have been looking at ways to reduce fashion waste in the world and the students have been using things they have found in op shops for their clothes,” she said.

“It’s been great to expose the students to this issue and they have been focusing on ways to help the environment.”

The student showcase will also feature VET dance students performing a few routines.

“We also have a few talented students who are going to sing for us,” Ms Fitzgerald said.

The college’s hospitality students will also make taster bags to give to people during the showcase.

Ms Fitzgerald said all the students were looking forward to the field days.

“It’s always a highlight for the students right at the start of the year,” she said.

“Although it is a busy time for us– we really have to hit the ground running right from the start of term to get ready.

“All the students have been working really hard and some students are working on their pieces in their lunch breaks as well, trying to get their garments made in time.

“It’s great to see them taking it seriously.”

Ms Fitzgerald said the field days was a great chance for students to show off their work.

“They make some amazing things, but then they take them home and no one gets to see them,” she said.

“This is a good chance for students to showcase their talents.”

The college will present the showcase in the Field Days Auditorium at 2pm each day.
