A COMMUNITY seminar next month will help people recognise the signs of dementia, and address common misconceptions about the condition.
Dementia Australia will host the free event at Horsham Golf Club on March 1 for people living with dementia, their families and friends, and carers.
Dementia Australia facilitator Carolyn Taplin will present the session, which will focus on how a healthy brain works.
It will also look at the main causes of dementia, why behaviour changes with the condition, and the risk factors associated with dementia.
Ms Taplin will also speak about support services available.
The event starts at 10.30am and runs for an hour.
Organisers said bookings were essential and could be made online at register.eventarc.com/39982, by emailing email@example.com, or by calling 9816 5708.
Dementia Australia will also host a series of support sessions for family carers in the next few months.
The first session on effective communication will be on Tuesday next week, followed by an introduction to dementia and services session on April 18, then a session on June 19 about coping with behaviour changes.
Uniting Care in Horsham will host the three sessions, which run from 10am to 12.30pm.
Organisers said people could call Lisa Reed on 1300 526 576, or visit https://goo.gl/WJoh1V to book.
They said bookings were essential, as places are limited.
Carer support groups will run on March 5 and June 4 at Horsham’s Sunnyside Lutheran Retirement Village.
