Wimmera region manager Marion Smith said the day was a great success.
“The Guides embraced the theme of ‘impact’, and all of the activities made them aware of their environment and how they should try to care for it,” she said.
Warracknabeal’s Charlie Inkster ran two activities from the World Thinking Day program as part of her Baden Powell Award.
“My activity station was about the impact that carbon dioxide has on the environment and how trees help absorb it,” she said.
The final challenge was to create a piece of artwork that could be shared with the World Association of Girl Guides and Girl Scouts.
Participants used recycled materials to create a collage of the Wimmera River.
They then had to interpret what the message of the art work was.
The girls came up with many ideas including recycling, protecting the environment, using drink bottles, not littering and realising that rubbish does not go away.
The final product will hang at Arura with its story.
