BULOKE Shire Council has confirmed up to 1500 tickets haven’t been refunded for the cancelled 2016 Maitreya Festival.
The “bush doof” music festival was set to be held at Wooroonook Lakes until the site was ordered to shut down.
In February 2016, council lodged a complaint with the Victorian Civil and Administrative Tribunal arguing that it could not issue permit for the festival site because documents hadn’t been supplied by organisers.
VCAT ruled in favor of council and the festival was cancelled.
Festival organisers promised refunds for all tickets, however two years on many festival goers are yet to receive a cent.
Festival organisers recently held community information sessions at Charlton and Sea Lake to discuss the future of the festival with council representatives in attendance.
Council’s interim chief executive officer Anthony Judd said festival organisers had submitted an application to use the Wooroonook Lakes site for a future festival, despite failing to refund tickets from the 2016 event.
“We believe that there are up to 1500 tickets that haven’t been refunded and we know that from the community information sessions that were held by the festival organisers,” Mr Judd said.
“There has been an application put in to hold the festival again and council will consider that application in due course.
“The application will be presented to council and will be voted on at a future meeting.
“Planning officers are doing early assessment of the site at the moment.”
Festival patrons yet to receive a refund have flocked to the festival’s Facebook page to voice their anger.
“We want a refund not entry to your third attempt of a festival! It’s beyond wrong what you’re doing. I don’t want to go to Maitreya because you haven’t done the right thing by the people. Give us our money back. It’s not yours to keep, you didn’t earn it,” one wrote.
Mr Judd recommended contacting the music operators to chase up ticket that have not been refunded.
“Contact them directly or talk to you bank,” he said.
The Wimmera Mail-Times contacted festival organisers who are yet to respond to queries.
