Horsham Rural City Council recreation and natural resource planner Mandy Kirsopp said in a report to council that the committee would offer advice on a broad range of subjects. This includes plans for the precinct, prioritising developments, improvements to users and community members safety when accessing the reserve and opportunities to maximise club and community usage.
Ms Kirsopp said the area was generating increased activity with the recent completion of the Kalkee Road Children’s and Community Hub and the Salvation Army Community Patch.
She said funding was also obtained from Sport and Recreation Victoria for female friendly change facility.
“A master plan is being developed for the Dudley W Cornell Reserve. The master plan will guide future development within the reserve,” she said.
Councillor Mark Radford said establishing a new advisory committee for the area was important.
“The things that are happening in Dudley Cornell is really exciting and things are changing,” he said. “Firing up the committee is important and it gives them ownership of the precinct.”
Horsham council will start its recruitment for the new committee. It was proposed that the committee would comprise of the general community, Colts Cricket Club, Horsham Soccer Club, Horsham Little Athletics Centre, Wimmera Primary Schools Sporting Association, Horsham Community Patch, Horsham Primary School, Kalkee Road Children’s and Community Hub and Horsham Rural City Council.
