Last weekend 84 bowlers converged on Horsham City Bowling Club’s greens for one of the biggest bowling tournaments in regional Victoria.

The prestigious two-day Horsham City Bowling Club Invitation Four Bowl Pairs Sets Play Tournament offered prize money of $3150 with the winning pair receiving $1200 and runner up $800. The eight section winners, semi-finalist and the best last game winner were also in the money.

The winners were former Victorian State Singles Champion John Lynch from Nhill who partnered with in-form Horsham City Club Champion Ron Goudie.

In an exciting two-set final they defeated the Mt Gambier RSL team of Ian McIntosh and Strawb Masters (s).  Lynch and Goudie won the first set and were down 8-0 in the second set, when they scored seven shots and then two singles winning nine shots to eight and claiming the set and the title.

After five games the section winners who fought out the finals were:-

Geoff Lowe (Goroke) and Geoff Gazelle (Dimboola), Jamie Lambert and Phillip Dowdell (Millicent), Rex Heinz and Deane Wilkinson (Mt Gambier), Tony Bowditch and Peter Roachhock (Mt Gambier RSL), Ben Masters and Jason Kuring (Mt Gambier RSL) and Glen Wright and Peter Gregory (Mt Gambier RSL).

Tournament organiser Kevin Clyne said it was great to see three greens full of bowlers and the standard of bowls was top class with most games going to the three-end decider. Spectators witnessed exceptional bowling on the fast greens.
