PASSENGER rail services from Horsham could lighten the burden of travel for the Wade family.
Eight Western Victorian councils launched a campaign in April 2017 calling for the return of passenger rail to Horsham and Hamilton. They require funding to develop a business case for the Western Rail Project.
Melanie and Adrian Wade’s five-year-old son Sam is autistic and every month they drive to Melbourne for therapy services that are not available in the Wimmera.
While driving is a challenge and not ideal, Mrs Wade said it was her only option.
The Wade family leaves Horsham after work on Thursday night, but Mrs Wade said there was always the risk of fatigue. She said driving during the night also disrupted Sam’s sleep.
Mrs Wade said driving added expenses, which were unnecessary, and included petrol, accommodation and parking.

“The centre that we go to in Melbourne has a train station right outside, but unfortunately there is no service from Horsham to Melbourne. If there was we would use the train,” she said.
Mrs Wade said passenger rail services would be a lot less stressful for her family and her son would enjoy the train more.
