WEST Wimmera Shire Council has awarded money to community groups through the second round of its 2017-18 Community Strengthening Grants Program.

Three community groups received $5000 for projects at Benayeo Hall, the Harrow and District Recreation Reserve and the Edenhope Pastoral and Agricultural Society respectively.
Council allocated $48,550.50 from its 2017-18 budget for the two rounds of the grants program.
The money was divided between three categories: community events, where groups could apply for grants totaling $3000; community projects, with grants totaling $10,000 available; and facility upgrades and equipment, where groups could apply for a share of $30,000.
Edenhope Adult Riding Club received $3602 and the Kaniva Hockey Club received $2969.
The Goroke Golf Club secured $1894.67, while the Dergholm Social Club received $750.
Minimay Recreations and Memorial Hall received $900.
More than $15,000 was allocated through round one of the grants program, with the remaining $33,000 rolled out in round two.
Council’s tourism and communications officer Heidi Gajic said the program was designed to promote and increase West Wimmera residents’ participation in activities.
She said the program also aimed to build and strengthen shire networks and partnerships, and support community leadership development.
She said the grants contributed to building a stronger community.
