The Saints could manage only one goal and one behind from the first half, as the Kees handled the windy conditions much better.
Kalkee kicked nine majors in the first half, with the Saints reducing the Kees’ to four goals in the second. Kalkee forward Steve Schultz kicked four for the game, while teammates Jasper Gunn and Jayden Kuhne both kicked two goals each.
Kalkee playing coach Hamish Exell said there were plenty of errors from both sides.
“It was really windy so there were a lot of skill errors from both teams,” he said. “We were able to link up a bit better than they did on this occasion.”
Exell said the side was starting to click after two games together, but still had things to work on.
“We are happy with how we are going but we still think there are plenty of things to improve on in our game,” he said. “We have had patches where we haven’t punished teams as much as we would have liked.”
Saints coach Chris Oliver said it was a frustrating game.
“We were unlucky all day with the conditions. It didn’t feel like a 10 goal loss in the end, but that’s what it ended up being,” he said. “They were a lot cleaner around the stoppages and that was a difference. Their handball cut us up a bit.”
Exell was again among the best on the ground, as well as teammate Simon Hobbs.
