April meeting: membership month – demonstration of jewellery making, craft – favourite China plate, cooking – extra special afternoon tea. May 17: 80th celebration of the Beulah branch.
West Wimmera: The Horsham Evening CWA branch held an impromptu roundtable discussion on this year's social issue study – elder abuse.
Members heard this can take many and varied forms such as serious physical abuse, financial abuse, neglect and exploitation.
While members agreed a closeness of community support and circle of friends can sometimes be a security against this, there’s a greater need for more to be done to tackle this complex problem.
Horsham branch: April meeting celebrated international day, starting with a beautiful luncheon with foods based on the Peruvian region of study.
This was followed by an informative illustrated talk, by the branch international officer, Lauris Hunter who showed a wide variety of Peruvian arts and crafts, including souvenirs from Machupicchu region.
Following on from this theme, the competition of articles from Peru resulted in Lauris Hunter and Joyce Bywaters winning first and second respectively with beautifully worked and very colourful bags.
Competition results: single bloom 1st, Merlyne Phelan; 2nd: Bev Shalders. Multi bloom: 1st, Elaine Starick; 2nd, Bev Shalders. Some members spent a week at the CWA house in Halls Gap from April 9-15, enjoying good company, craft and the lovely surrounding area. This has been an annual retreat for many years now.
Horsham ladies who manned the barbecue at Bunnings on Easter Saturday are to be congratulated on an extremely successful day.
A reminder that May 6, first Sunday is CWA Church Sunday, held this year at the newly constructed Church of Christ, with minister, Simon Risson, 10am.
