Betty, 71, said it had been a wonderful 50 years and she and Noel have had so much fun, she wondered where the time had gone.
Noel, 75, said he had to chase Betty for seven years before they got married. He remembered the day it all began – November 29, 1961.
“We knocked around as lads, as you do, and one night we thought we should go out and find ourselves a partner,” he said.
“I asked her to the movies and we have been seeing each other ever since.”
Noel said Betty was only 14 at the time and he had to wait until she was 21 to marry her.
But he said it was worth the wait.
Within those seven years Betty moved to Bendigo from Horsham and back to Horsham while Noel lived in Melbourne for a period of time.
Betty said she still had a box full of love letters that Noel wrote to her while they were apart for those seven years.
