The 23-year-old wingman came to the Burras after winning the best and fairest award at Mininera and District Football club Tatyoon Hawks in 2017.
He said he hopes to be able to use his running capabilities and foot skills on the outside to propel his side forward this season.
“I’m just pretty keen to get out there an play my first game,” he said.
“It has been a pretty big build up since the start of pre-season. I got into it straight away in late October and it’s easily been my most consistent pre-seasons on the track.”
He said he had noticed a big difference just within the approach of the club as it prepares for the new season.
“It’s great because we’ve had so many more blokes on the track and it has certainly been a bit of a step up,” he said. “I’ve really been enjoying it.”
He travels more than a hour each way in order from Ararat to train each week but said it gave him some time to switch off at the end of the night.
“It might be a big more of a struggle when the weather gets cold and wet in the middle of July but for the time being it’s been good,” he said.
“Everyone at the club has been really great and welcoming. In terms of being a country club it has a similar feel to Tatyoon and I think I’ve fitted in pretty well.”
Minyip-Murtoa coach Damian Cameron formerly played with Cronin at the Hawks and was instrumental in luring him to the club.
Cronin said he enjoyed Cameron’s coaching style and that he had had thought about moving to the Burras when his former teammate initially took over the coaching reins.
“I knew what to expect from Damo,” he said.
“He has a very professional approach to what he is doing and just goes out there to lead by example.
“I jumped at the opportunity this season to take on the challenge.”
During pre-season Cronin had been impressed by a number of his new teammates and he singled out Kieran Delahunty as a standout.
“He’s six feet four inches but was beating everyone in the time trials by fair margin,” he said.
“He’s one I’m really excited to play with.”
Cronin said it took him some time to find his feet during Minyip-Murtoa’s recent practice match against Hamiliton.
“They were a pretty good side but eventually I worked my way into it,” he said.
“Once I picked up the pace of the game I was able to get a few kicks.
“I’ll be able to tell you in a few weeks how I’ve really found the transition – hopefully I slot onto a wing and play my role for the team.”
