The building, at 11 Harriett Street, was originally the Horsham Butter Factory and later became home to the Horsham Italian Club. 

Wes Davidson of Wes Davidson Real Estate said the building would be auctioned at 11am.

He said there had been interest shown in the property. 

“We’re not sure how many people will be at the auction yet but there certainly has been a lot of interest shown,” he said. 

“Several parties have gone through with very detailed inspections.” 

Mr Davidson said the property was a great development site. He said a broad range of potential buyers have expressed interest in the property. 

“People who are looking for residential development and people who want to use the existing facility for other purposes, so it’s going to be a really interesting one,” he said. 

“It’s a bit of Horsham history with the Italian community. A lot of weddings and functions have gone on here over the years, it’s a bit sad to see it go in one way.”

Long-term treasurer of the club Lorenzo Manserra said the building brought back memories. 

“The Italian community used to come here and play cards but now we are all gone,” he said. 

Mr Manserra said the money from the building sale would be donated to charity. 

“We haven’t decided which charity to donate to yet. It will be up to the committee to decide what charity, if we sell,” he said. 

Mr Manserra said about 120 families were involved at the club’s peak. 

Mr Manserra said the building was important for the Italian community who migrated to the Wimmera in the 1970s and 1980s. 

“It was good for the community for us all to come together,” he said. 

“It is sad to see it go, it means a lot to everyone but everything comes to an end.” 

The building used to hold birthday parties, weddings and other functions.

“It made a lot of people happy,” Mr Manserra said.
