The Saints were two strong for the Demons in the inaugural 2017 Deakin Uni Female Footyball League Season but the Demons turned the tables to win 6.5 (41) to 1.5 (11).
Demons coach Terry Arnel said it was good to get a win against the Saints.
“There is a such a dependence on where your teams is at in terms of age groups wise and with experience,” he said. “Last season they had a lot of top-age girls who gave them an edge. Our girls are coming along pretty good now and I’m really happy with their progress.”
Both sides were without their Greater Western Victoria Rebels players but it gave other players an opportunity to step up.
Arnel said many of the girls in both sides were just playing their first or second game.
“They get into the swing of it pretty quickly and pick up the physical side of the game,” he said. “Abby Hallam came in for her first game and was really good. Charlotte Launder was another standout.
Launder kicked three goals in a best on ground performance while Hallam, Emily Severin and Paige Glover kicked the other three for the Demons. Hannah Ross kicked the Saints only goal.
The Stawell Warriors could not manage a win in their match against Portland. The side managed just one goal and were beaten by 66 points.
Elysia Cooper kicked the side’s goal while Jesse Bligh and Madison Churchill were among the best players.
