Club president Kenny Watts said the event attracted quality riders, many of whom heaped praise on the quality of the track at Dooen.
“The weather was on our side and we were able to redo the track on Saturday afternoon for Sunday racing,” Watt said.
“When you’re an outdoor event the elements take control sometimes. The track was great and provided some quality racing.
“We have had some comments from top level riders that they were very impressed with the club’s efforts. A lot of people are amazed at the improvements at our facility since the last time they were there.
“The track provided great opportunities for racing and passing. A lot of people were wrapped with how the track held up. We have had a lot of positive feedback from the riders, which is the main thing.”
Watts said the club was always looking to improve the track when hosting high profile events.
“We want it to be Australia’s best track and every time we do something it is to improve the track,” he said.
“The riders are all appreciative of the infrastructure we have. We had young Callum Norton, the reigning Victorian 250cc and 450cc champion of 2017 here.
“When you get that level of riders coming here, it brings other quality riders to come and race against him. Well-run events bring high calibre riders.”
There were also plenty of quality older riders competing across the weekend.
“We also had the reigning world vet champion in the over-45s racing at the weekend in Mike Reefman and he was a standout,” Watts said.
“We also had a former Australian champion in Julian Carafa and he won the over-30 age group and was great to watch.
“In the over-50s we had James Graham who won every race, and then he came second in the over-40s too, which is a solid effort.”
