The tags allow livestock agents and staff to use the scanners to check in lambs.
They also help staff allocate the animals to pens and then later find them for buyers.
The electronic tags contain a transponder encoded with a unique unalterable number that can be quickly read electronically.
State government legislation introduced in 2016 made it mandatory for all sheep and lambs born after January 1, 2017 to be scanned in saleyards across the state from March 31.
Lamb supply was up by 2,460 head at last Wednesday’s stock exchange, with 5,500 yarded at Horsham.
Lambs sold a few dollars either side of firm compared to two weeks ago.
