Harfied played in the Demons 24 point premiership win against Minyip-Murtoa in 2017.
He was named amongst the best for the Demons.
“That was one of my highlights of my career,” he said.
“We worked really hard all the way through the year and to come away with a win in the end.”
The Demons had 10-15 players from the 2017 premiership team move on for the 2018 season and Harfield said this has given younger players and reserves players an opportunity to step up.
“We have a pretty young team, everyone is gelling together really well. Most of the players have played juniors (at Horsham) I think, most players are around that 25 age mark,” he said.
Harfield said the loyalty from players to the club has shown with how well the team coped with the losses from the previous season.
He said a majority of the players who started their footballing careers in under-14s at the Demons have stayed at the club.
“We’ve played together for so long, we know how each other plays,” he said.
Harfield said the loyalty players show to the club is the best aspect, he said there isn’t a lot of need to import players from outside the club.
This is Harfield’s third year playing senior football with the Demons, after two years of being brought up to seniors and put down to reserves in 2016 and 2017, Harfield said he is still cementing his spot in the back line.
“It’s always been competitive to get a senior game. There has always been people pushing you for your spot, you have to really earn it,” he said.
Harfield said he played in the forward line in juniors but said he adapted well to the position change.
“We have a young back line which is good, we all work well together because we have played together for so long. It’s good seeing everyone come through and improve,” he said.
Louie Dalziel coached the Demons in 2017 with now senior coach Deek Roberts acting as assistant coach, Harfield said not a lot has changed.
“We’ve only had to change a few things seeing as we lost so many people, changed a few game plans but other than that it’s mostly the same,” he said.
Harfield said some of the best players he’s stepped onto the oval alongside are Jordyn Burke, Rhona Conboy and Ben Lakin.
“They’re always helping you, telling you where to stand and most of the time the footy comes to you wherever they say to go,” he said.
Harfield said morale is up at the Demons camp after a strong start to 2018.
