HORSHAM’S Jannik Blair and his Bilbao wheelchair basketball team have fallen just short of winning the Spanish wheelchair basketball league, two weeks after going down in the Euro League 1 final.

The side came up against Amiab Albacete in the final, losing a close game 59-54.

Speaking to the Mail-Times after the Euro League 1 final loss, Blair said he had enjoyed his first season in the Spanish league.

“The depth in the Spanish league is really high,” he said.

It keeps you on your toes every week and you can lose to anyone. The quality in the league made it an interesting and exciting season.

Blair will now be returning to Australia, but said he hopes to be playing with Bilbao again next season.

“I’ll be coming back to Australia and competing with the Red Dust Heelers in the National Wheelchair Basketball League,” he said.

“I plan on being back at Bilbao again next season. I’ve been speaking pretty extensively with the president and am keen to continue playing here.”
