Wimmera Health Care Group physiotherapist Brooke Davies said new mums and babies were not always being referred to a physiotherapy in the first few months after birth.
“We surveyed new mums to see where the gaps in service and knowledge were and the main issue was post discharge from hospital and follow-ups with physiotherapy,” she said. “So now, as part of discharge, new mums are booked in for our post-natal physiotherapy group, which runs over two weeks.”
She said the new program can identify any issues and concerns and can be followed up with a one-on-one appointment.
A participant of the program Brooke Carr said the classes offered her beneficial advice that she would not have known beforehand. She said wanted to return to high-intensity sport after her caesarean section, however, was advised to start with lower-impact exercise first.
