ELLINBANK and District Football League interleague coach Daniel Fry said he was thrilled by the opportunity to coach against the Horsham District league on Saturday.

Fry, a non-playing coach, said preparation for his side had been solid despite a few late injuries.

“Everyone is looking forward to it and the preparation has been good,” he said.

“We have had a few injuries this week so have had to reshuffle a little bit. The side we will take up will be well representative of the league, there is only one club that won’t have a representative.”

Fry coaches Longwarry in the Ellinbank and District league and said he loved interleague football.

“This is my first year coaching interleague and I’m a big advocate for interleague football,” he said.

“When the league asked me to coach it I jumped at it. I’m looking forward to seeing not only our league but also how the Horsham guys go too.”

Fry said the Horsham District team provided an unknown test for his side.

“I wouldn’t know if Horsham has a 115kg forward who’s kicked 300 goals the last few years or an ex-VFL onballer,” he said.

“We have tried to pick our squad so we can be as versatile as possible so if we encounter any monsters out there we can make do with it.”

Fry said he would look to captain Matt Gray to lead from the front in the ruck.

“We have a few mature guys and Gray will be our captain,” Fry said.

“He is a local coach and has played representative football for around 10 years.”

The Ellinabnk and Horsham interleague sides will face off in Ballarat on Saturday.
