The Wimmera students each received study awards which recognise the best performers in individual VCE subjects.
Education Minister James Merlino handed out the awards on Monday night at a ceremony in Melbourne.
Ms Kerber was Nhill College’s dux in 2017 and received an award for achieving a perfect study score of 50 in Equine Studies.
The 18-year-old said she was thrilled to receive the award.
“It’s recognition for how much effort I put into that year,” she said.
“I was interested in the course because I wanted to do something that gave me hands on experience and a chance to expand my knowledge around biomechanics.
“This subject took a lot of effort to get through because I had to do everything from a distance as the course was based out of Wangaratta.
“That meant I had to often travel there for assessments, as well as travel for work placements.”
Ms Kerber said she was currently working full time.
“In year 12 I didn’t know what I wanted to do at university, so I thought my best option was to get out into the workforce,” she said.
Nhill College principal Mark Zimmermann said the school was extremely proud of Ms Kerber’s achievements.
“It’s a fantastic achievement considering she was one of only 274 students to receive an award,” he said.
Former Birchip College student William Lee was recognised at the awards for achieving a study score of 47 in Agriculture and Horticulture Studies.
