Volleyball Horsham president David Berry said Dockrill has worked extremely hard to improve her game since joining the academy.
“It’s an amazing story – she came up to me one day and asked me if she could join the academy as it would provide her with more opportunities,” Mr Berry said.
“She is still a developing athlete. She has her strengths and weaknesses but she just keeps working on her game.
“Under-19s in the state program is not easy. There are some amazing girls out there and she is a bottom-aged player.”
Dockrill and Victoria White will come up against the best young junior players in the country come October.
“She doesn’t look out of place in the state team,” Mr Berry said. “She blocks really well and has some height on her side. There are going to be some big girls and hard games on the Gold Coast.”
