The name Horsham 4X4 Accessories came later in Mr Jenkins’ business lifespan, he originally started business ownership after purchasing Hobbs Car Care.
Mr Jenkins said business started strongly but when the global financial crisis hit, business looked scarce.
“That really hit us hard for a while,” he said.
Hobbs Car Care was a car detailing workshop, he also had a side business where he did auto-electrical work.
Mr Jenkins said he had been in the four wheel drive business prior to buying Hobbs Car Care, he worked as an auto-electrician for 15 years in Melbourne.
When in Melbourne he worked specifically with four wheel drives.
“One thing led to another and it got busier and busier with the four wheel drive stuff and the car detailing died off a bit,” he said.
Mr Jenkins said this is when the business started to really evolve into Horsham 4X4 Accessories.
“We didn’t push the car detailing as hard,” he said.
It has been six years since his business has given car detailing services.
“I had enough of it and I really pushed the four wheel drive side of it and it grew from there,” he said.
“It was 2012 when we officially changed the name to Horsham 4X4 Accessories.”
Mr Jenkins said the name changing process was smooth.
“Since then it has been good, we have grown from a little shed to having a much bigger show room,” he said.
Mr Jenkins said a milestone for his business was when he bought his third four wheel drive.
“Another one was when we became an opposite lock store,” he said.
Mr Jenkins said he was happy with his business.
“We’re just plodding along, I haven’t got massive overheads so it works,” he said.
“In business, to last 10 years is great. I wouldn’t have thought I was going to last that long. As it goes there has been a lot of up and downs over the years but we’re here now so we’re hoping to be here for another 10 years.”
Mr Jenkins said stock had increased since the first time he changed the name of the business to Horsham 4X4 Accessories.
“We had $100 worth of stock at first, we now have about $40,000 worth of stock,” he said.
The business started as a workshop with a small amount of four wheel drive accessories on offer, the business gradually expanded to offering camping gear.
“When we moved into the new showroom four years ago I thought we needed to expand a bit,” Mr Jenkins said.
“Everyone who comes in are like minded people, enjoy four wheel driving and camping.”
