Hamilton was able to limit Stawell to just three points to run away with a 6.9 (45) to 0.3 (3) win at Central Park on Sunday.
Sharni Grace was Stawell’s best in the loss while Nadia Martin and Elisha Baulch were also impressive.
The loss is Stawell’s fourth of 2018 from six games. Four home and away rounds remain in the season. Stawell will play two of them at Central Park.
Meanwhile, the Horsham Demons also suffered a defeat. The side put up a fight against Portland, but went down 3.4 (22) to 6.9 (45) away from home. The Demons sit fifth with three wins and three losses.
The Horsham Saints had to forfeit its match against South Warrnambool Roosters due to a lack of numbers.
