Swifts’ last outing at Kalkee was a semi-final loss to Jeparit-Rainbow last year, something coach Scott Carey said does not play much of a factor in his side’s preparation for this weekend.
“Kalkee is definitely one of those grounds where the wind can play a big impact on how you move the ball,” he said.
“Our boys have played there plenty of times now so I am sure they will be able to adjust.”
The contest will reveal much about both sides and where they stand within the competition, with Kalkee sitting in third spot and Swifts in fourth heading into the match.
Kalkee co-coach Stuart Farr said the result of the game is important in the context of the season as a whole.
“If you look at the ladder we are both fighting for similar spots so it’s a really important game early in the season – hopefully we can get a little bit ahead of that pack in the middle,” he said.
Farr said despite a strong start to the season his side has areas to improve.
“Generally we need to be a lot more accountable, I thought we were very unaccountable against Natimuk United so that’s a focus for the team,” he said.
“We just want to be better each week and we want improvement from every training session and every game.
“Daniel Schache and Xavier Hobbs are still a week away but besides that we are looking pretty fit.”
