Wimmera Southern Mallee Regional Partnership Chairperson David Jochinke said the upcoming Regional Assembly will be more of a collaboration from previous assemblies.
“We’ll be asking in the assembly have we been hitting the mark with outcomes? Are we addressing the key issues?” he said.
Outcomes from previous assemblies include the development of a business model for a Networked Grains Centre of Excellence to advance the Wimmera Southern Mallee region’s competitive advantage in agri-science.
Other outcomes included $500,000 to develop a tourism plan for the Wimmera Southern Mallee region and $45 million towards improving digital technology and infrastructure across regional Victoria through the Connecting Regional Communities Program.
In the 2017/18 Victorian Budget, the state government allocated $29 million for priority initiatives by the partnerships.
This years Regional Assembly will focus on regional planning, coordinated service delivery, education and energy.
“Preparations for the Regional Assembly are well under control,” Mr Jochinke said.
The Assembly is hoping 200 to 300 people will attend, with exact numbers still unknown.
“We have catering and have sent out invitations for people to attend,” he said. “A diverse range of people are planning to attend.”
Regional Partnerships work with the three levels of government, federal, state and local, to address issues facing rural and regional communities.
The partnerships are made up of business and community leaders.
The Wimmera Southern Mallee Regional Partnership is one of nine regional partnerships in Victoria.
