St Helens Plains farmer Ben Brooksby – a.k.a the Naked Farmer – has designed a new range of branded underwear and trucker hats, with the aim to raise funds for mental health.
Mr Brooksby said he had big plans for the range.
“I will be donating $1 from every product sold to the Royal Flying Doctor’s Service’s mental health programs,” he said.
“The rest of the profits will be used to run mental health workshops around Australia.
“The sales have been incredible so far, considering we haven’t really done any advertising yet.”
He said there were plans to expand the range in the future.
“My focus is on the undies at the moment,” he said.
“Maybe when summer comes around we’ll start looking at doing different prints on them, but at the moment they’re basic and are printed with the Naked Farmer branding.”
On June 23, Mr Brooksby will leave on a month-long tour around the country.
He will hold mental health workshops with farmers in South Australia, Western Australia, the Northern Territory, Queensland, New South Wales and Victoria.
“We’re trying to break the stigma and open up people’s minds to the hardships that rural people face,” he said.
“I’ve teamed up with Tomorrow Man who do amazing things to get men to open up and talk about their mental health.”
As part of the tour, Mr Brooksby will write a book featuring stories of farmers from across the country.
“I’ll be talking to farmers about the hardships that face, and hope to educate people about where their food and fibre comes from,” he said.
“It will also be a chance for me to get out and meet our amazing social media followers. At the moment, I have more than 100 farmers who have put their hands up to talk to me for it.”
Mr Brooksby said underwear and hats were available for purchase on the Naked Farmer’s Facebook page.
