HAVEN Laser Electrical apprentice Corey Mann competed at the WorldSkills National Championships at the weekend.
The championships were competed at the Sydney Convention and Exhibition Centre in Darling Harbour from Saturday to Monday.
Mr Mann said the experience and knowledge he gained from the championships was incredible.
“Everyone was given a module A and module B project to do over three days,” he said.
“Module A was a domestic instillation board which had to be done over one and a half days.
“Module B we had half a day to look over a plan and Monday to finish it.”
Mr Mann said he had never completed or worked on module B, a control board, as an apprentice.
“I had never dealt with a control board at work before so I had to learn on the spot. In that way I learnt something valuable,” he said.
Mr Mann said the championships were bigger than he expected.
“You get there and you are amazed,” he said.
“There were a lot of people from different trades competing and the size of the venue was huge.
“There were also a lot of eyes watching you.”
Mr Mann said he recommended the championships for every apprentice or trainee.
“It’s a really good experience, you learn a lot,” he said.
