Alice will perform at the Horsham Town Hall this Saturday night with musician Benny Walker.
“I’ve seen Benny play many times and he’s always so great live,” she said.
“I’ve only played at Horsham once before, so it will be good to come home.”
After living her whole life in Horsham, Alice moved to Melbourne at the age of 18 to attend University and pursue a music career.
“My older sisters had all moved to Melbourne, so I saw it like a rite of passage,” she said.
“I studied Wildlife Conservation and Biology at University because I always wanted to work with animals, but I didn’t finish.
“Melbourne was always somewhere I wanted to live, but sometimes I do miss home.”
Alice’s love for music started at a young age.
“I’ve been learning the piano since I was five, so that’s how it all started,” she said.
“I liked musicians like Missy Higgins and Regina Spektor, who were singers and played the piano.
“Honestly I didn’t consider pursuing music as a career until a few years ago and since then it’s just kind of become a reality.”
Alice released her debut album Friends With Feelings earlier this year.
“A lot of people class my music as folk, but I don’t think it is; it’s always evolving,” she said.
“Many of my songs are about the country and the Grampians.
“The album came together over a number of months, but some of the lyrics I have had written down since I was 17; so it’s a mix of old and new stuff.”
Currently she is playing in a band with fellow former Horsham residents, brothers Sam and Kane King.
“I play the keys and they play the drums and guitar,” she said.
“It’s so nice playing with other people, especially people from the same place as me.”
Alice Skye and Benny Walker will perform at the Horsham Town Hall this Saturday night (June 9) from 8pm as part of the Art Is… Festival.
