Kaniva Police Sergeant Phill Shiells said the crash occurred at about 8.30am.
“A local 53-year-old man was driving his Holden utility and was crossing south on the Western Highway into SJ Hawkers Road (also known as Dave Dodson Road),” he said.
“He struck a west-bound Mitsubishi utility driven by a 53-year-old Ararat man. He was travelling into South Australia with his wife.”
Sergeant Shiells said no injuries were sustained from the crash.
“There was significant damage to both vehicles and both had to be towed,” he said.
“As we understand, both vehicles had their lights on.”
Sergeant Shiells said it was important for motorists to take extra precautions when driving in heavy fog.
“When vision is poor due to heavy fog, use other means and senses and don’t guess the highway is clear,” he said.
“Wind windows down or turn off engine if necessary. Always make sure your headlights are on in foggy conditions.”
