Horsham and District Soccer Club secured important away victory against Ballarat Red | Photos

THREE goals in seven minutes helped Horsham and District Soccer Club to its eighth victory of 2018.

Horsham reclaimed top spot in the Ballarat and District Soccer Association Div two when it defeated Ballarat Red 4-3 on Sunday.

Three goals were scored in four minutes in an eventful first half.

Ballarat’s Lachlan Dempsey scored a simple goal after a Matthew Hadden mistake on the 34th minute.

Noah Talbot created something out of nothing three minutes later, getting on the end of a Reuben Macchia corner. He volleyed the ball into the bottom corner to draw Horsham level.

Horsham goalkeeper, Elijah Macchia, was at fault for the second Ballarat goal – it came on the 38th minute.

Elijah attempted a quick throw to Reuben but failed to see Brendan Pym, who intercepted the pass and eased past Horsham’s out-of-position defence to score.

Horsham was dominant but two mistakes from the Falcons defensive unit helped Ballarat to a 2-1 lead at half time.

A change in formation proved fruitful as Horsham dominated with its slick passing and chance creation.

A seven minute goal-scoring masterclass by July Htoo and Talbot saw Horsham flip the game on its head.

Tired Falcons struggled in the final 10 minutes.

A sloppy foul by Reuben in the box resulted in a penalty goal by Ballarat, the Horsham defence proved too stable for Ballarat and ran out the game.

Horsham will play Buninyong in Horsham on Sunday in round 11.
