The two sides were both searching for their first wins of the season and it were the Lakers who showed the most promising signs early, kicking seven first-half goals to the Tigers’ four.
A blistering third quarter performance from Pimpinio in which the side kicked eight answered goals placed the side within touching distance of an important win. The Lakers kicked four goals to Pimpinio’s two in the fourth, not enough to erase the deficit.
Pimpinio ran out victors 14.7 (91) to 11.8 (74). Pimpinio assistant coach Liam Jakobi led the way for the Tigers, kicking a game high five goals, while Cameron Ellis also kicked three majors for Pimpinio.
Jakobi said the side’s third quarter performance was as good as he had seen for a long time.

“A few of the older blokes were trying to work out the last time we kicked eight goals in a game, let alone in one quarter,” he said.
“It was probably back in a premiership year the last time we did that. It was a great feeling to get the win on the board.
“The first half we weren’t playing the sort of footy we wanted to be playing but the coach Nathan Sacshe and I figured out what we needed to do. We assessed what was going on and we came out a different team.
“We put Daniel Baker down back and I went forward so that made a little bit of a difference. It was a big momentum swing.
“It was a really good reward for everyone who has been around the last few years. It looks like just a win on the ladder but it means a lot more to everyone at the club.”
Taylors Lake coach Jye Smith said it was a similar story as much of the season for his side.
“Again we played a good first half but at half-time we had no bench and dropped off in the second half,” he said. “Some of the guys need to try harder. Pimpinio just wanted the ball more in the third quarter.”
