Rams coach Sam Anson said his side had been focusing on starting the game off strong. The Rams kicked seven goals to Laharum’s one in the first quarter before adding another seven in the second term. 

“It was a ripping win and we focused on getting out of the blocks well at training during the week,” Anson said. “We’ve been too slow starting other games so it shows how important it is to start well.”

Jaydon Stiles kicked eight goals for the Rams, while Kyal Murray and Nathan Koenig kicked three goals each.

“At half-time we didn’t have a bench with a few injuries with Andrew Watson hurting his hamstring the most serious one,” Anson said. “We played as a team – there were no superstars and it’s pretty hard to stop anyone when they play like a team.”

Laharum senior coach Robbie Miller returned in the contest from a broken leg which had kept him out since round one. 

“They are a confidence team and once they had a roll on we just couldn’t stop them,” Miller said.

“They had good zones and structures set up and we just found the day hard from start to finish. They were cleaner around the stoppages and we discussed it after the game.

“It’s frustrating because we do show great signs but our backs are against the wall now.”
