Stawell Police Senior Constable Ross Murdoch said the assault happened at 7.45am on June 18.
“He said hello to someone passing him on the street and they then yelled verbal abuse at him. The man turned to get away and he was pushed to the ground,” Senior Constable Murdoch said.
Following the attack the offender allegedly walked south of Patrick Street.
A passerby found the man and he was taken to hospital with head injuries.
“The man is still waiting results from the hospital,” Senior Constable Murdoch said.
“We are looking for a female, who appeared to be in her early thirties, with long brown hair. She was wearing bright yellow pants and a white dress.”
