Borders were wasteful in front of goal, kicking 4.14 (38) to Naracoorte’s 6.7 (43).
Borders led by 15 points at half-time but kicked 1.8 in the second half to the Demons’ 5.4. Eagles coach Darrin Wilson said it was a game that fell away from his side.
“We had our opportunities but they just made the most of theirs,” he said.
“We probably dominated the game but they defended really well. 75% of the game was in our forward half but we just couldn’t kick goals.
“Daniel Skinner did a really good job in defence and Graham Hampton running off half-back was really good. Harry Pretlove showed us a bit and centre half-forward Grant Cother was our best on at half-back.”
Meanwhile Kaniva-Leeor continued to set the pace in the league, defeating Kingston 18.7 (115) to 5.9 (39).
Cougars coach Nick Murphy said the game was closer than the scoreline reflected
“We were able to open a lead in the second half, it just took us a while to adjust to the ground,” he said.
“They were in it for a while. We changed up our structure a bit in the second half and our ball use in the second half was much better.”
The Cougars are top of the ladder with Borders in ninth.
Murphy said: “We are 8-1 and it’s a good result but we aren’t too content, and we have that ultimate goal at the end of the season.”
