Bureau of Meteorology Victorian duty forecaster Beren Bradshaw said it was typical at this time of the year for the weather to drop below -1 degrees in Horsham and the Wimmera.

“The weather in Horsham got down to -1.2 degrees on June 5, so it isn’t that uncommon,” she said. 

“We tend to get weather below zero degrees in the winter.

“If conditions are dry enough and the overnight conditions are clear enough, it is common for those numbers to drop down.

“There was also no wind which can play a big part in the temperature falling.” 

Ms Bradshaw said weather dropped to 0.4 degrees in Nhill on Tuesday. 

“There was some high-level cloud cover coming through,” she said. 

Ms Bradshaw also said fog helped stop the weather from falling in Nhill. 

She said Longrenong’s lowest temperature was -1.9, while -1.5 was recorded at Kanagulk and -0.4 at Stawell . 

“In other areas of the Wimmera there were places which fell below zero,” she said. 

“We had a frost warning for the Wimmera-Mallee area this morning, and for most of the state. We are, once again, expecting to see some cold temperatures on Wednesday morning.”

Ms Bradshaw said weather was predicted to be similar for the coming week.
