Mr Baker, now a teacher in Geelong, has been nominated alongside names such as Dave Hughes and Andy Lee.
“To think this came from an idea I had for my children – it’s grown some legs and just to be shortlisted alongside those great authors and comedians is a thrill,” Mr Baker said.
“This was my first book that was published. Some parents from my school have been telling me it’s their childrens’ favourite book.”
Mr Baker said he hoped to find time shortly to try and write more picture books.
“That spurs me on to try and get a few other ideas going,” he said.
“Hopefully there are some more to come. School holidays are coming up so hopefully I’ll get some time to try and write a few things.”
Mr Baker will attend the awards ceremony in late October.
