More than 100 Wimmera sports and community groups received donations totaling $139,000.
Among this year’s grant recipients was the Horsham Arts Council.
The group received $2000 to purchase and install extra lighting in the Horsham Arts Council’s rehearsal room and workshop.
Horsham Arts Council president Simon Dandy said the improved lighting would offer a better environment for cast members to rehearse in the lead up to each production.
Mr Dandy said the group was using the space as best as they could, but the work was long overdue.
“We have put up with what we had, but it is pretty dark, which makes reading lines and sheet music very hard during rehearsals,” he said. “It is well and truly over due and this grant money helps us get it done.”
Mr Dandy said the installation of the new and improved lighting started last weekend. He said it was perfect timing because rehearsals for the Little Shop of Horrors production would start soon.
The Horsham Arts Council were recipients in the Horsham Sports and Community Club grants in the past.
Mr Dandy said they were fortunate to receive money from the grants program in 2015 and 2016.
“The first grant we received helped us complete a lot of renovations to get the venue up to scratch. The Horsham Sports and Community Club helped us purchase furniture for our foyer area,” he said.
“Our second grant helped us purchase our own tools. We do a lot of building with sets and props and in the past we had to get a builder to bring their own tools, but now that is not the case because we have our own.”
Mr Dandy said the Horsham Arts Council was “extremely grateful” for the support received from the club.
He said the grants helped the group improve its rehearsal space and by extension, the quality of its productions each year.
