The new sporting complex at the Cameron Oval Reserve, Laharum is set for a grand opening at 2pm.
Laharum Sports Incorporated secretary Ben Peucker said it was expected to be an incredible day for the club.
“It has been well known around the league that our facilities weren’t the best for the past 15 years,” he said.
Mr Peucker said the building was finished and signed off to use about a week ago.
“Some of the teams have used it for training and hopefully we can get a win on Saturday for the opening,” he said.
The total cost of the complex amounted to $650,000 with Horsham Rural City Council providing $400,000, the state government providing $100,000 and the Laharum community providing $150,000.
Mr Peucker said he was impressed by the final product of the building.
“The building has come up an absolute treat,” he said.
He said the design of the building was perfect for the club.
“This building has a universal design so it can be accessed by all abilities, it is also designed to have minimal maintenance and therefore place less pressure on our clubs going forward,” he said.
“The old netball rooms had just two showers and it was difficult for two teams to fit in there. Now the netballers have plenty of room on game day. The waste and plumbing at the reserve needed to be upgraded to deal with the additional toilets and showers.”
Mr Peucker said, along with scheduled sports like football, cricket and netball, the new building would benefit other events held at the reserve.
“The oval has hosted camping events and emergency response teams following numerous bushfires in the Northern Grampians,” he said.
“Blazeaid volunteers resided at the oval for weeks at a time in response to bushfires and it hosted the Victorian Bushwalking federation weekend in 2016.”
