Acclaimed Australian country singer Daniel Thompson and Golden Guitar winning legend Stuie French have teamed up for the unique experience, Johnny Cash The Concert Revisits Johnny Cash at Folsom Prison.
The show will not only feature the Folsom Prison album in it’s entirety, it will also feature a set of Cash’s greatest hits from throughout his entire career.
Mr Thompson said the show would be a treat for Cash fans. “We have a bit of fun and tell some stories about the songs,” he said. “It’s not just for Johnny Cash fans really; it’s great music and good fun.”
Growing up in Sydney with musician parents meant music was an inevitable pathway for Mr Thompson.
“I’ve been working mostly in the country music industry for 25-odd-years, and started doing Johnny Cash about 10 years ago,” he said.
“Johnny Cash’s music was very different to anything else when I listened to it as a kid. So it stood out back then.”
He said Cash had an everlasting impact on music.
“It boils down to the fact that he was just very honest about things, if he had something to say, he’d say it in his music,” he said.
“He was able to write songs that people could relate to; I think he was a very skilled songwriter and a great performer. I always love performing the big songs, like Walk the Line and Ring of Fire.
“One of my favourites that we get to do is Hurt, which was his cover of the Nine Inch Nails song that he recorded at the end of his life.
“It’s a very different song in his catalogue and a lot of people find their way into his music through that song.”
Johnny Cash The Concert will performed at the Horsham Town Hall on Friday, August 3 from 8pm.
Tickets cost between $60 and $65, and can be bought form the Horsham Town Hall’s website.
