Prior to this, the Saints held down third place, with a six-point margin over fourth-placed Donald on the ladder. This has now been cut to just two points with both retaining their places in the top four, but there are a couple of clubs hot on their heels making a play for a finals berth.
At Charlton Park the Wycheproof-Narraport Demons did enough to get the points over the Charlton Navy Blues. The Demons kicked four goals in the opening term but could only manage to kick a further five for the final three quarters, but it was enough to give them a five-goal win at full time.
After an even first half at Sea Lake, ladder leaders Birchip-Watchem got the upper hand in the last half, getting home by 20 points.
The Tigers held their own with the Bulls until half time, trailling by just four points at the main break. But with only two goals in the second half they let the Bulls continue with their winning run, guaranteeing them a finals double chance. They sit six games clear of the fourth side with only five rounds left in the home and away season.
Wedderburn Redbacks’ trip to Boort Park proved fruitful for the Redbacks.
The Redbacks who could only manage two goals in the first half were able to kick three goals into the wind in the third quarter and, with the Magpies’ scoring one major, the Redbacks were back in the contest leading into the final term. The Redbacks hit the front and went on to record a ten-point win over Boort.
